Checklist
- H1 heading: Include a primary keyword H1 heading as the first heading on the page.
- H2 and H3 headings: Structure your page with descriptive H2 and H3 headings, weaving in primary/secondary keywords where appropriate in a logical order.
- Body copy optimised: Ensure that, where appropriate, relevant keywords are woven into the body copy (write for the user first).
- Alt text optimised: Ensure alt text follows best practice guidelines.
- E-A-T: Consider how the page copy can demonstrate expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness. Reference credible sources for your information where necessary (for guidance on referencing sources, check Tearfund’s style guidelines).
- URL: This should be concise and descriptive, matching the URL provided.
- Title Tag: This should include a target keyword and be fewer than 60 characters in length.
- Meta description: This should be a descriptive and enticing summary of the content, of up to 160 characters. You can check the length and appearance using this simple tool.
- Images: Compress images to reduce the page load time, use descriptive image file names and alt tags
- Internal linking: Add links from the new page to related Tearfund pages, research or blog posts
- Add a call to action: Consider what action you want the reader to take next and provide a call to action, eg Sign the petition, Donate etc.
